WARNING: NON-HALAL :)
After scouting around in the old city of Klang, me and my family found this family-business-based restaurant that specialised in making their famous' Mee Hoon Kuih. For your information, 'Mee Hoon Kuih' is actually a similar version of 'pan mee'. It is made of simplest ingredients like flour, eggs and water, kneaded and cooked under a high heat of boiling water. It is served together with soup or dry (dark soy sauce), anchovies, pork fillets, 'sayur manis', fried onion and more. The star here is definitely the soup, prepared from boiling pork bones and anchovies as well as the 'mee hoon kuih' itself, kind of like the Asian pasta.
So what's so special about the mee hoon kuih here? Well, we are about to find out. We ordered each a bowl of mee hoon kuih and also a cup of honey lemon and herbal jelly to quench the summer thirst. Only in Klang, you can get an extra large portion of noodle with an astonishing affordable price like RM 4.50!

Aside from the wonderful 'Mee Hoon Kuih' that sparkled magic on my tongue, the affordable price is also a major attraction here. Hence, this place is always crowded with people and waiting time could go up to 1 hour plus. As the owner emphasises strongly on traditional flavors, they did not hire any worker in their cooking team. This is fully run by the family members, that explains the long waiting time. Personally, the food is truly worth the wait, but if you are in a rush and want the comfort of dining at home, they also provide take away with uncooked fresh pasta for you to bring home and cook.
The super busy cooking team! |

2. Sun Ming Char Siew Rice
Next up, back to the city, in the old town of Cheras, we found this little old kopitiam with a huge crowd on a Saturday afternoon. Tugged within the packed shop lots of Taman Connaught, here stands the famous Sun Ming Restaurant, famous for its pork and duck. It is actually a recommendation of a friend, claiming it as the best char siew rice in town. Therefore, yours truly went to scout the location and this is the reported scene:
The crowd definitely proves that Sun Ming is really something to look forward to. Both of us ordered a platter of roasted duck, char siew (barbecued pork) and siew yuk (roasted pork belly) as our main, together with a bowl of pickled vegetable soup and rice to go with.

Meal of the day |
Food was mind-blowing, but expect to wait for a good 30 minutes for your food to be served. Well, good things need time to prepare right? The total bill for the day is RM 30 for two person portion, very affordable. Everything here is done with utmost respect for food and tradition. Every steps and process is done properly and meticulously to produce amazing hawker food to the crowd. That's the thing i love about local delicacies and i will always be a fan for Malaysia's hawker food and the culture behind it. Till then, xoxo.
