As you can see, the special thing about Omakase dining is the perfect flow of item served to you. The skillful sushi master would plan your menu according to the flavour profile of each item, introducing the origin and technique used in creating the item. We started off light with some clean tasting fish, slowly built up to stronger flavour profile like Chutoro, cholesterol bowl and Engawa (which was not shown here as it was so good i quickly devoured it). Of course, ending with some palate cleaning and sweeter flavours like Tamagoyaki and ice-cream. I love the concept of open kitchen and omakase is basically the same concept. Every single items served was top notch in freshness and flavour combination. Pricing wise, it costs around RM 300 per person, slightly cheaper compared to the dinner menu. It was a tad bit expensive, but you are paying for top notch service and dining experience. Overall, Oribe offered us an unforgettable dining experience which is recommended especially when you are planning a meal with your special one for some important celebration. Hope you enjoyed today's write up! I have so many exciting updates for this platform, please stay tuned from my social media sources to know more! xoxo

I have a confession to make. I believe many of you share the same problem as me. I ADORE snacks. Yes, i can eat snacks all day every day, even though i know they are bad for health and maintaining the perfect body shape. No rice? No meat? All is cool as long as i get to eat my favourite ice-cream, soft serve, cakes, desserts and perhaps chips. As a medical professional, i have to force myself to live a healthy lifestyle so that i can be a good example to my patients. Hence, i'll eat clean for 6 days and have a cheat day (maybe more) to myself where i can eat all the snacks i want. Today, i want to share with you some of my all-time-favourite-snacks--pies and soft-serve.

 A Pie Thing

I was never a fan of pie until recently when i tried out A Pie Thing. I used to think pies are heavy, fattening, too buttery and boring, until i went to the popular pie place in PJ--A Pie Thing. I used my WorthyBook coupon to get 30% off my total bill as well as getting a free Matcha Latte. Such a fantastic deal right? I visited the main branch in PJ Uptown. They have another branch in Bandar Sunway, with different business hours but carrying similar products.

The menu

Sweet pie selections

Savoury pies selection

As its name suggests, A Pie Thing specialises in making delicious pies, both sweet and savoury. Their main specialty is their Mashacre, which is basically any savoury pie, topped with mashed potato, mashed green peas and drizzled with homemade gravy. I was so tempted to get that one but too bad, mommy and i definitely couldn't stomach the entire thing. Hence, we got ourselves one sweet pie--Dark Smores Pie; a savoury pie--Chunky Steak and got ourselves a cup of complimentary green tea latte.

Dark Smores Pie--RM 10.50 Crunchy pie base, rich and decadent chocolate ganache, topped with toasted mini marshmallows.

Chunky Steak--RM 12.90 Pieces of beef with carrots in a tomato base, wrapped within a layer of buttery and flaky pie crust.

Green Tea Latte at the corner.

My usual impression about pie was excessive butter, boring and lack of creativity. However, this place took me by surprise and showcased a variety of different flavours and interpretation of pie making. I was totally impressed with the concept, especially the huge Mashacre. My personal favourite has to be the Dark Smores Pie, mainly because of the complexity of flavours and texture i got from this little fella. The crust was crispy but not too buttery, chocolate was rich, smooth, silky but not too sweet, the mini marshmallows were toasted to perfection with a slight crisp on top but maintains the soft and chewy texture inside. Chunky Steak was also a great pie with chunks of beef, cooked and flavoured just right. Green tea latte was not too bad as well, but nothing beats my dearest Nana's.

Since my first visit here, i kept going back for more of its wonderful pies. If you are looking for a light bite over some conversation with loved ones, this casual cafe is the perfect choice for you. Be sure to check out the different operating hours for PJ Uptown and Bandar Sunway's branches.

P.S. Tokyo

If there is a single dessert trend that won't go off, it has got to be the legendary green tea. Matcha craze doesn't seems to go off even though it has already been so commercialized in many cafes. Perhaps it is matcha's unique bittersweet flavour that keeps people coming back for more. P.S. Tokyo is a popular hit in SS2 PJ, famous for its green tea soft serve. I tried out their matcha and hojicha flavours, one in full size, another in mini cup.

Matcha and hojicha soft serve--RM 9.90 and RM 6.90

For Instagram lovers out  there~

I have to say, for the price we are paying, the serving is so huge! It is almost double the size of a standard soft serve. I prefer the hojicha (roasted tea) simply because the unique balanced between bitter and sweet. Matcha one was a little bit too sweet for me, as i prefer my matcha soft serve to be more bitter than sweet. Nevertheless, i do like the creaminess and richness of this cooling dessert. P.S. Tokyo also offers free photo printing for Instagrammers out there. Firstly, you have to make your Instagram profile public, so that it is visible, and hash tag #pstokyo, follow the simple instruction at the computer provided in the shop and you will get a photo instantly. I saw some of them clip on their photos on the wall provided, creating an interactive and interesting atmosphere.

Besides these two flavours, P.S. Tokyo also has an interesting array of new soft serve flavours lining up. They have milk and Berry Calpico flavours. If you are a soft serve lover like me, be sure to give this cafe a try! That's all for today's update, i hope you enjoyed my write up. Stay tuned for more! Have a great weekend ahead! xoxo

Salmon Sashimi & Avocado Salad Lettuce, cucumber, crab stick salad, fresh salmon sashimi, avocado dressed with house specialty salad dressing

Salmon Don Set--RM 38++ Salmon Sashimi, Salmon belly (sake harasu) and salmon roe (ikura) on top of sushi rice

Salmon Sashimi Set--RM  33++ 6 pieces of thickly sliced salmon sashimi

It was my first time trying the salmon sashimi and avocado salad. I was truly amazed by the freshness of greens and salmon sashimi. The best thing for the dish has to be the specially made salad dressing. I could taste a thousand different flavours like orange, lemon zest, sesame oil, radish, onion and more. Of course, the two other set lunch were equally impressive as well. Each pieces of sashimi just melted in my mouth, leaving a trail of lingering richness on my palate.

For the quality of the food we get here, i have to say it is truly affordable and worth the price. Each pieces of salmon we get here were fresh, generous in amount and on-spot with rich flavour. Set lunch menu will be approximately RM 10+ cheaper than usual. If you want to make the most out of your meal, you have to visit Kura in the afternoon. Set lunch menu is available everyday from 12-3pm. Be sure to reward yourself with some great and authentic Nippon meal today! Have a great weekend peeps! xoxo

Gion Set--159+THB Green Tea Roll Cake filled with strawberry custard, served with green tea+bamboo charcoal soft serve, sliced fruits, nama chocolate and green tea syrup.

Matcha Deluxe Parfait--229+THB Green tea+milk custard jelly--Red bean--green tea shaved ice--Kantan jelly--glutinous rice ball--single scoop matcha soft serve--nama chocolate--whipped cream--cookies

Sumi Matcha Anmitsu--149+THB Matcha-bamboocharcoal mixed soft serve (Wagashi), served with fresh fruit toppings, 'Kuromame' black soy bean, azuki, shiratama, 'Kanten' jelly, 'Kuromitzu' (black honey) syrup.

As you might notice, these photos were not upright enough and flawed. The truth is, i was not able to focus when taking these seductive desserts. After a few shots, i immediately started gulping all these wonders down. For the Gion Roll set, we went with matcha roll cake. I must say, the roll cake was amazing with generous amount of strawberry custard cream, and it was soft and silky smooth. Their matcha+bamboo charcoal was super smooth and it melted away inside my mouth. Bamboo charcoal did not carry much flavour, it tasted like vanilla milk soft serve with bamboo charcoal powder as colouring agents. My second favourite is the Sumi Matcha Amitsu, or soft serve fruit bowl. I like how generous they are in the serving and types of fruit toppings. It was so refreshing and black honey syrup really stepped up the entire flavor for this dish. Lastly, the matcha parfait was a little bit let down as i dislike the bottom milk and green tea jelly. I'm not quite sure whether it can be called as jelly because the consistency was very hard and tasteless. Nana's parfait would topple this item easily.

Anyway, i still recommend this cafe to all the matcha-maniac out there. There are actually plenty of awesome dessert cafes around Bangkok. So the next time you visit this city, be sure to try out this Japanese dessert cafe rather than the usual 'touristy' cafes! I'll catch you guys next time! xoxo

Fresh salmon sashimi sushi

Salmon sashimi roll

Chawan Mushi

Assorted fresh sashimi (along with ramen set)

Ramen set

Unagi rice

Ishiharu is a rare find, in a small town like Batu Pahat. Located just beside the 'Glutton Street' near Jalan Abu Bakar, this Japanese Restaurant is not hard to find. Just like the typical Nippon places, they offer an array of Japanese wonders. Ranges from sashimi, sushi, ramen, bento, rice, sides and sakae. Everybody has something to enjoy over here. I've tried their pork broth ramen, salmon sashimi, unagi rice as well as fresh sashimi. Although its ramen still fell short comparing to the famous Tonkatsu ramen i had in Singapore, but the light and flavourful broth still managed to warrant a second visit. I would prefer some increase in the size of this dish. Sashimi dishes were all fresh and fulled of fishy fatness. I also like the addition of bonito in their unagi rice, successfully increased the sweetness in this dish.

Overall, i was satisfied with their food but was very disappointed with their service. Perhaps we came in a big group, but i don't accept this as a reason for slow and ineffective service. Most of their staff are not fluent with any Malaysian language and are dependent on one staff to take orders. Some of the diners did not ven receive their full orders. Hopefully the management will pull this problem together and Ishiharu Izakaya will definitely be a must-visit spot for tourists vising Batu Pahat. Till then, xoxo.
