Comfort Food: Suki-ya, Pavilion

21:23

Ohh boy, it's the monsoon season again in Malaysia! You know, that time of the year when it's just pouring dogs and cats every evening and it usually will last throughout the night. I have nothing against rainy days, in fact i love rainy days especially when i'm indoor, in my room, snuggling inside my warm bed, with some snacks and hot beverage, sipping it while watching some shows on my laptop. Typical nerd, i know. Another favourite thing that i like to do is to have hotpot with friends and family! Therefore, today, i am going to write about a very well known Japanese sukiyaki & shabu-shabu chain restaurant in Selangor--Suki-Ya.

The one i visited was the main branch, situated inside Tokyo Street of Pavilion, Bukit Bintang. It was my first time dining here as this place is always crowded and one had to queue for at least 30 minutes just to get a seat here. However, i was very lucky as there wasn't a lot of people on weekday. We quickly gotten ourselves a seat after 15 minutes of waiting time. Suki-Ya is well known for its shabu-shabu with sukiyaki soup base and unlimited supplies of protein (except for pork as it is halal). The rule is simple: queue for your seat, pick a soup base, pick your protein and you may get started with a feast of good food. It costs RM 29.80+ for lunch and RM 39.80+ for dinner. You may eat all you want for 2 hours duration.

Our choice of soup base: Left: Kimchi soup; Right: Sukiyaki soup
(personally prefer the sweet sukiyaki soup)
From top, clockwise: beef, chicken and lamb
Juicy lamb
Beef, thinly sliced and succulent
Chicken fillet, packed with wonderful fats
*Note: the meat is free flow, just be reminded to not waste any food!

Feel free to add on some sides at the bar. You can choose from vegetables, clams, fungi and more.
Even the instruction was given on the table.
This miso sauce was the bomb! Good with any kind of meat as dipping sauce.
Colorful sushi!
Step-by-step on my way of eating shabu-shabu!
Well, not really my way, but this is how we eat in Suki-Ya. First, you pick a piece of thinly sliced meat, then you dipped it into the boiling soup, for approximately 10 seconds, or until it turns brown or not red anymore. It is very thinly sliced, hence it only takes a short time to cook it through. Then, quickly dip it inside your egg wash. I personally use 2 eggs, just crack them in a bowl. After your meat is fully covered with egg wash, just put 'em in your mouth and there you go, a heavenly enjoyment!

Besides the items mentioned above, they also provide soft served ice-cream in various flavors. It is self-service based. I personally was quite satisfied with my lunch here in Suki-Ya. The food items were fresh and of premium quality, price is acceptable and affordable and service was swift and efficient. This is definitely the choice to go if you are craving for a feast of protein and bowl of warm soup in a rainy day. Till then, xoxo.
