   With our unstable currency, poor economic status and increasing inflation rate, it is getting more challenging to survive our daily lives with the income we have. That's why we need to save up and spend wisely for the future. However, for a foodie like me, i still want to enjoy decent food because life is too dull without good flavours. Hence, i have gotten myself a new coupon book--Worthy Book that will enable me to enjoy great food at an affordable price.

Featuring a wide array of food

   Worthy Book is a coupon booklet that comprises a total of 180 vouchers, of 44 various well-known, well-established chained shops, restaurants and cafe that offer the readers some value-for-money discount, freebies and deals. It is small and can be conveniently carried around to be used in over 100 shopping malls around Malaysia. 

   To me, it is a life-savior as some of you might know, i am a very indecisive person. Most of the time, i do not know what to eat and where to dine. With this book, i can easily scroll through the available restaurants and decide which one i would like to try.

   Recently, my friends and i were hanging out in MidValley and i have decided to bring along this trusty book with me. We decided to have lunch at Killer Gourmet Burger (KGB).     As usual, KGB did not disappoint us, with the top notch burger patty made with real and flavourful meat cooked to perfection, according to your preference. However, the Smores Milkshake was a little bit too sweet for us.

   After lunch, we decided to have some coffee to wash out the sweetness from our milkshake we had earlier. Hence, we hopped over to Madame Waffle to have a treat by Worthy Book as well. We used the 'Buy-1-Free-1' coupon for any coffee beverages at Madame Waffle. I had a cup of cappucino while Mr. J had a cup of Picollo Latte at the price of one.

   Oh HELLO my dear readers! Happy Chinese New Year! Before i begin, i want to apologize for my lack of updates for a few weeks now. My external hard disk was corrupted and i lost all my precious data, photos and information and i did not have any backup! T.T I have tried to fix it, sent to so many shops and looked for so many IT experts but none of them could save it. I was so devastated and lost all my precious data for the past 2 years. Hence, i couldn't blog for you guys. I know this is no excuse, but now i'm back for good! After organizing some new pieces of entries, this Chinese New Year, i'll post up more interesting places and cafes for you to visit with your friends and family this festive season!

   Not long ago, i went for a road (food) trip with classmates to Melaka. Besides the usual Melaka's famous food, we went to a popular cafe in Jonker area--The Daily Fix Cafe, for some quick bites and drinks to quench our thirst.








   The Daily Fix is located behind a store which showcased local tourist souvenirs, off Jonker street. Similar to the heritage cafes in Penang, The Daily Fix adopted the concept of combination between classic and modern, offering sweaty and tired diners a relaxing and artistic space to unwind over a cup of drinks and small bites.

   We ordered a cup of hot cappucino, a glass of iced matcha with ice-cream and a slice of durian cake for sharing.

    For the starter, coffee was alright, strong, fragrant, rich and creamy, more on the nutty and fruity sides. The matcha latte was an interesting creation, with the addition of of matcha syrup and vanilla ice-cream, bringing up the sweetness level. Durian cake was the best find in The Daily Fix, with its spongy butter cake, topped with strong durian flavoured whipped cream, this dessert is to die for. No to mention the Melaka's signature gula melaka syrup to complete this wonderful dessert.

   Overall, The Daily Fix Cafe is indeed a great place to hang out and relax over some sweet bites and awesome drinks. The crowd was constantly full and staffs were incredibly friendly and helpful. I highly recommend you guys who are travelling to Melaka to try out this wonderful cafe in the future. Dont forget to drink plenty of water and exercise as you feast during this holiday season! Nitro Coffee--RM 13 Cold brew coffee infused with honey and nitrogen.

Soft serve with corn flakes--RM 8

   The nitrogen coffee was really unique to me. I was amazed by the complexity of flavours on my first sip. Its coffee component tasted bitter, fruity and acidic, added with slight sweetness from the honey and gassy after-taste like a soft drink. Overall, it reminds me of German beer with a strong malty flavour. Love it! Mocha was just alright, with overwhelming chocolate flavour. Soft serve was just okay, not memorable to us.



   However, we do enjoy the quiet and tranquil space Bean Reserve has created. I particularly like asymmetrical table and cute little wooden stools they have, very clean and simple. I am looking forward to more interesting menu from this highly potential cafe. It wound be a hit around the neighbourhood with their excellent service and decent drinks.    We ordered 2 brunch items and one cup of cappucino for sharing. As recommended by most of their visitors, we went with Eat Die Me and South China Sea, which are their best sellers.

Eat Die Me--RM 26 Big breakfast set consisting gourmet sausages (chicken/beef/lamb), eggs (any style), toast with a serving of creamed corn, sauteed mushrooms and housemade hash.

South China Sea--RM 24 Poached eggs with grilled salmon fillets, topped with tangy housemade salsa and housemade hash.

Cappucino (5oz)--RM 11

   I must say, the photos look better than actual product. I appreciate the effort of making a twist in the menu, introducing different ways of interpretation to the usual brunch items, but the execution and results were not up to the mark. For instance, my Eat Die Me big breakfast was way below the average. The sunny side up were over-cooked, sausages and hash browns were too greasy to swallow. Creamy corn doesn't fit into this dish. In general, everything was a platter of oil without any complexity of flavours. The South China Sea was a disappointment as well. Poached eggs were more like soft-boiled eggs, salmon was not fresh and hash browns was out of the place as well. I just don't understand the addiction of hash brown here. Thank goodness the coffee was a life saver. The aromatic and rich earthy flavour totally bought me over. This is something worth returning for.


   Food aside, Merchant's Lane is indeed a great place for photography. With beautiful settings and warm natural lighting in every corner, this is the perfect spot for photography enthusiasts. We were not satisfied by the brunch items, but we did enjoy the space and photography experience. I hope for some improvement with execution of food and Merchant's Lane could be something more rewarding and memorable to foodies like us. Have a nice day ahead! xoxo.

Brodo di Pesce--RM 32++ Tomato Seafood soup, served with a piece of toasted white bread.

    To be good at Italian food, the flavours must be rich and natural, warm and comforting. That was exactly what we got from the dinner at Pietro's. My favourite was the starter--tomato seafood soup. It was cooked in sweet and sourish tomato broth, together with fresh and juicy seafood that added tonnes of sweetness and flavours.

Mushroom & Truffle Risotto--RM 35++ mushroom and risotto, cooked with risotto soaked in white wine and broth.

Carbonara--RM 32++ Carbonara cooked with beef bacon, served with pasta of choice

D'Agnello--RM 55++ Roasted lamb racked, served with salad and potato wedges, dressed with balsamic vinaigrette and sauce.

   Our main dishes did not disappoint as well. The mushroom risotto tasted like ten types of mushroom blended together, giving out such an intense and earthy mushroom essence in the well cooked risotto. Carbonara was a little bit too creamy to my liking, but i appreciate the al dente spaghetti that was so pleasant to bite in. Our lamb racks was cooked to perfection with our request of medium rare, just a little bit too salty. I would prefer to have more sauce to go with this dish as well.

    I need not say further that we truly enjoyed the warm service, modern interior and wonderful dinner we had in Pietro's. I wonder why this hidden gem has yet to reach out to the community in Klang Valley. If you are wondering where to spend this festive season with loved ones, give Pietro a try.
