Earthlings Coffee Workshop and Elementary Coffee Roasters, Kuching.

18:18

Ok guys, some of you might already know, that i have a serious addiction problem with coffee. Things got worse when i worked in a cafe months ago. I literally can't go through my day without at least 2 cups of strong coffee. It is THAT bad. Wherever i go, whenever i could, i'll be looking out for coffee. Hence, on my last trip to Kuching, Sarawak, home girl had to quench her cravings. Mr. J introduced me to his favourite coffee place in his hometown. This is none other that Earthlings Coffee Workshop.

To say that Earthlings is a good cafe would be an understatement. It is more like the coffee connoisseur in Kuching, possibly one of the best in Malaysia. Having born and bred in Kuching for years, Earthlings has already established 3 branches across the land of cats. This one that we visited is located in City One Mall.

As a coffee junkie, i couldn't help but being attracted to the insanely strong coffee aroma as i stepped into this dark brown and black rustic cafe. The space was filled with amazing and funky coffee related tools, apparatus, beans and arrays of desserts. Right away, one can totally tell that Earthlings is serious about their coffee. We were greeted by their warm and friendly staff, explaining to us the concept behind Earthlings. This local coffee connoisseur has a deep love and knowledge in their coffee. They purchased numerous types of beans from different part of the world, including South America, Ethiopia, Indonesia and more, in order to create their 3 unique home blends, which are Darklings, Dark Matter and Red Earth. Besides, Earthlings also offers Single Origin Coffee for a single dimension flavour along with other fancier coffee such as Luwak Coffee. Fret not non-coffee drinkers out there, like any other cafes, this place has a wide selection of non-caffeinated drinks as well.

Seeing this incredibly creative concept, Mr. J and i decided to try out 2 of their special house blends, which are Darklings and Dark Matter. Darklings was said to be carrying a chocolaty, nutty and bold flavour while Dark Matter was characterised as rich, bittersweet with dark chocolate taste. I was quite interested in their Red Earth, as it promises fruity, floral and acidity in this blend. Unfortunately, it was not available at the moment. Hence, we ordered a cup of Hot Latte with Darklings blend and a cup of Long Black with Dark Matter blend. Our friends who tagged along also ordered a cup of Premium Peppermint Tea and a cup of New York Iced Latte in Darklings as well.

Hot Latte--RM 11.50

Hot Long Black--RM 9.50

Iced New York Latte--RM 11.50
Hot Peppermint Tea--RM 7.50
Earthlings Coffee really delivered what they promised. The coffee we ordered truly possessed the flavours as described. The hot latte was creamy, nutty, chocolaty, even leaning towards hazelnut after taste. The latte art was well made and i also appreciate the little biscotti at the side. On the other hand, my long black was strong in flavour, possessing the wonderful coffee richness, acidity, bitterness but not too overwhelming. I am happy to say that, finally, a cafe that is well balanced, memorable and excellent in their coffee game.

Because one is never enough. Therefore, on the next day, we went out to hunt for Earthlings' latest branch in Viva City Mall--Elementary Coffee Roasters. Unlike the one we visited yesterday, Elementary has a different set up and slightly different menu. They did not carry the similar coffee blends as we had yesterday, instead, they offer us the 3 different home blends as substitutes. We chose a cup of Hot Long Black as usual, in the form of a fruity and acidic blend which i forgot the name.

Similarly to Earthlings, we were never disappointed by the coffee standard here. It was acidic, strong, fruity, winery and bitter. It has this beautiful layer of crema, crowning the surface of this simple black coffee. The ambiance was top notch relaxing, with coffee magazines, coffee merchandise and even a display of coffee roaster they used to produce such wonderful blends. Not to mention as well, their picturesque coffee bar which is definitely Instagram-worthy.

Mr. J and i had so much fun exploring wonderful cafes in Kuching. These 2 gems here are definitely one of our favourite cafes in the whole country. Cafes in the Klang Valley better watch out as Earthlings Coffee Workshop is truly a great coffee connoisseur that understands coffee and produces wonderful coffee drinks. It truly embodies the spirit of coffee makers and it is definitely here to stay in Malaysia! xoxo
