The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen

18:10

Having based in Batu Pahat now, it is superbly hard for me to resist myself to cross over the Tebrau Coast, over to our neighbour Singapore for a getaway. Hence, whenever i am bored with my life in the small town, Johor Bharu will be my nearest escape since it is just less than 1.5 hours drive away. Today, i'm going to introduce a well-established brunch cafe in JB, co-owned by one of our senior, Edward that we visited during our trip to the south.

The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen is Edward's second project, after the Faculty of Caffeine. This second project aims to be a comfortable hub offering bread and breakfast for young people visiting JB, hence the name lodge & kitchen. Lodge is still under construction, however the kitchen is fully running, providing some Australian-inspired brunch dishes. The Replacement is located on Jalan Dhoby, in JB's Chinatown. It can be easily seen as a corner lot unit, painted in all crisply clean white. Parking can be a problem here because of the jam packed crowds and old roads.

This two-units cafe was completely refurnished, decorated and transformed into a beautiful space, perfect for photography and social media exhibition. The master mind behind wit-fully played with tiles, marbles, wood and metal in creating a combination of classic and modern environment for hungry diners. All crooks and corners in The Replacement screams simplicity and elegance.

We started off our meal with a Friendly Eggs Benny, followed by Original Churros, accompanied by a cup of Cappucino. Thanks to the friendly staff who recommended us all the items above!

Friendly Eggs Benny (smoked salmon)--RM 24.90
Classic with a twist: poached eggs, buttery spinach and Hollandaise sauce on fluffy English muffins. Toppings with either smoked salmon, beef pastrami or sauteed portobello mushroom.
Original Churros--RM12.90

Flatlay of the day~
Eggs Benny here was decent and simple, spinach and holladaise sauce were rich and creamy. I was hoping for more twist and excitement from this popular cafe dish but was a little disappointed. However, the classic churros saved the day by being perfect in every ways. The churros were crispy on the outside, soft and doughy inside. Cinnamon sugar was generously coated and goes well with the churros. This was the best churros i've ever tasted! If there were something to picked on, i would prefer the chocolate ganache to come in a larger portion. Coffee was milky and good.

Overall, Mr. J and i had a great time here in The Replacement. It is a great place for brunch, hang outs and photography. If you happen to be in JB, feel free to give them a visit!
