The Lawn Cafe @ Eco Terraces, Paya Terubong, Penang

23:50

Recently, there has been some stirring in my social circle, all revolving around this 'glasshouse cafe' that swept over the whole Malaysia. From JB's Palladium Cafe to KL's similar branch off Jalan Ipoh, this little glasshouse cafe just opened its sister's cafe in Penang as well. So what's so hype about this cafe? It turns out to be something similar as one of the scene Jay Chou used in his music video. If you are interested, you can check out the link here: Jay Chou's music video

Anyway, as a curious baby, i have to check out this place too! The glasshouse cafe in Penang is named as The Lawn Cafe, situated behind the brand new Eco World's Sales Gallery at Paya Terubong, Penang. Just look out for Eco World's Sales Gallery and park at the parking lots provided, go through the entrance and it will lead you to the uphill pathway towards The Lawn Cafe. This strategic location is similar to the KL and JB's Palladium Cafe. I guess this brilliant move is a win-win-situation for both parties. As people are drawn towards the cafe/sales gallery, both parties benefit from the crowd right?

The Lawn Cafe plays along with the 'eco' theme by the developer. It was built on the natural hill, with a great view across the greens and part of Penang's town. The glasshouse itself has very limited space, only 3 tables, but there are plenty of space outside the cafe, on the grass slope or under the beautiful white dome-shaped hut. (encouraging sun-tanning i supposed?) The cafe's interior was kept simple and minimal, emphasising heavily on its unique full glasshouse experience, where natural sunlight can shine through the little space, perfect for photography and the enjoyment of nature.

I visited this cafe with dear cousie Caryn after our lunch at Kota. We ordered a hot and iced cappucino respectively, with a slice of Red Velvet Cake for sharing.

Hot Cappucino--RM 9.90
Iced Cappucino--RM 11.90
Red Velvet Cake--RM 13
I found the cute little logo of The Lawn Cafe

First thing first, i'm sure some of you already know how picky am i with my coffee. Sadly, the cappucino i had here did not hit the mark. It was very mild, almost children-friendly, slightly bitter and minimally nutty, that's pretty much all about it, not memorable. The iced cappucino was sweetened and overwhelming, almost overcame the coffee flavour. The red velvet cake was dry and tasted flat; cream cheese frosting was barely present. This piece of item is definitely not eligible to be called as a 'red velvet cake'.

Honestly, this glasshouse cafe only identified itself as a beautiful glasshouse and that's pretty much all about it. I'm greatly disappointed by the food, coffee, service, air-conditioning and setting of this place. It is indeed beautiful on the exterior and surrounding, wonderful for an evening out with friends and family. Perhaps more effort should be given in their execution and sourcing for the right flavours that can satisfy most of the customers out there. Nevertheless, it was a relaxing afternoon for us with The Lawn, thanks to its strategic location and view. Here's some photos and i hope you enjoyed this write up today! xoxo
