Beautiful morning, wonderful weather, even better company. I love waking up to the bright sunlight on my window, heading out for hearty breakfast with ma family. A simple, ordinary but lovely day. In conjunction with the recent MAMA Awards, i would like to blog something about the Korean culture. Well, i am not a K-pop fan, i know a thing or two about Korean bands, singers and dramas, but not the fanatic, swooning girls out there that would shriek over the appearance of some look-alike-guy-band. (*no offence :3) I watch Running Man, i fonder over good Korean drama and sometimes the melodramatic songs, most importantly, i LOVE Korean food. Hey, don't get me wrong, i just value food more than fame. LOL. Anyway, today i'm going to introduce 2 relatively new Korean-concept restaurant in town.
1. Gangnam 88 @ Solaris, Mont Kiara
2 weeks ago, my dear friend Agnes came to visit me in KL. We were indecisive of where to go cause Mont Kiara/Sri Hartamas area is the ultimate food haven. After driving for 45 minutes, we finally settled for this new and chic restaurant in Solaris. It is located on first floor, right above Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. It is easily spotted just beside the road leading to the indoor carpark. We were greeted by a few friendly staffs and modern Korean cafe design, just like those you see in Korean drama.
The menu of Gangnam 88 is quite wide in variety. From ramen to bulgogi to BBQ, they have it all. We quickly ordered a Lunch Galbi (grilled pork set lunch) and a Doenjang Bumbuk (thicken bean paste pork stew). We also had a Gyeranmali (Korean rolled egg) as add-ons. Each of the set comes with a wide range of Korean side dishes.
My dish-lunch galbi was definitely my favourite of the day. It was recommended by the waiter so i just gave it a try. Their pork was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The consistency of the meat was just nice, not too chewy or mushy. The gyeranmali (rolled egg) was fantastic too, not your normal omelette. It was surprisingly flavorsome and not too heavy. However, i don't really appreciate the doenjang bumbuk because i find it a little bit too salty to my liking.
Nevertheless, i am very pleased with the service and the happening interior of this korean restaurant. I think it is run by a Korean as well. (not too sure). Pricing per person is around RM40++. They just opened another branch at Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara not too long ago, i guess i'll pay them a visit when i crave for colorful Korean food next time.

2. Tous les Jours Bakery Cafe, Bangsar
Yea, i know Tous les Jours sounds like a French bakery right? However, it is a fusion between French and Korean bakery cafe. It is operated by a couple of French and Korean who share a love for pastries and desserts, hence, Tous les Jours was born into this hectic area called Telawi, Bangsar. It is actually a part of an international chained bakery cafe, pioneered in the United States 9 years ago. It truly has high potential to become another hot spot in Bangsar.
That was the day when Jeff came back to visit us in KL. After a heavy lunch at Nirvana, we walked over to this bakery cafe while waiting for Jo to drop by. The ambiance was fresh, neat and fulled of the smell of freshly-baked bread. One of life's most enjoyable smell. For the day, i ordered a cup of Latte and their signature Sweet Potato Cake.
Well, the sweet potato cake was a disappointment. Perhaps it is not to my liking. I think that the sweet potato cubes doesn't go well with the soft vanilla cake. The whole combination is just too peculiar for me. I guess i'm a classic cake lover. :/ The bright side is, i enjoyed their latte! It has a nice smell, smooth texture and beautiful foam on top.
This dual-function bakery cafe not only serves simple food like sandwiches but also sells top quality bread and pastries for customers who wish to bring them back to enjoy. Pricing is average, about RM 20 per person. I absolutely love the relaxing environment of Tous les Jours. I can just sit here all day, reading or blogging while sipping my cup of coffee and watching people passed by in this busy little commercial area. I am just so stalker-ish. LOL.
