Jam & Kaya Cafe, PJ Palms Sport Centre

Apple and cinnamon, chocolate and banana, strawberries and cream, butter and kaya, nutella and peanut butter, the list goes on. I can name a few of the best combination that complement each other, they are some of the most common ingredients you see in daily life. However, jam and kaya? That's my first time knowing that kind of combination! I am not sure whether they work for each other on a toast but the cafe that bears this name kinda work for me! This week, i'm introducing Jam & Kaya Cafe to you guys! It is a really hidden cafe that i didn't even know it exists since few weeks ago. Ever since my first try, i have been their regular customer weekly. Let's find out what's so special about this!

Jam & Kaya Cafe is well hidden within the vicinity of PJ Palms Sport Centre, off Lorong Sultan. If you are not familiar with this place, fret not. You can first assess to old PJ roundabout, off Jalan Timur, look out for Lorong Sultan and turn right into the small street. PJ Palms Sport Centre will be on your right. Please note that there are two parking options here. You can either park on your left, which is under MBPJ, just throw in some coins into the machine. Another not so economical option would be to park on your right, which is a private property and pay RM 5 for all day parking. I would definitely go for the first option, but if there is limited parking space, just take the second option or opt for parking behind the building.

As you enter the sports centre, go across the swimming pool and there you will be able to locate this cozy little hut called Jam & Kaya Cafe. Around the sports centre, there are also other cafe and restaurants, perfect for a family day out! In Jam & Kaya Cafe, the diners will be offered a wide range of breakfast and lunch menu. The signature here would be pancakes, almost everyone travel all the way just for its fluffy and fragrant pancakes. Other than that, coffee, tea and cakes are also available. Here are some of the dishes i had over the numerous visits.

Jam & Kaya's Pancake Signature--RM 14.50+
2 pieces of pancakes with strawberry jam, kaya, strawberry slices, blueberries, drizzled with maple syrup and topped with single scoop vanilla ice-cream

Although this is not the fluffiest pancake i had, but the fragrant buttermilk, soft texture and smartly matched flavours made it so memorable and enjoyable. I especially like the kaya's intense coconut flavour that lingers within my palate. The thinly sliced strawberries and blueberries offered a tinge of acidity that balance the dish, without overpowering the sweetness from maple syrup and ice-cream.

Australian Big Breakfast Set--RM 22.90+
Scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, brown button mushroom, hash brown, garlic toast and greens.
This breakfast set will be one of the favourites for those big eaters out there. The portion is generous, every elements on the dish was well seasoned and well cooked.

Egg Benedict--RM 16.70+
2 poached eggs with hollandaise sauce on greens and freshly baked croissant

yay to runny yolk!
I'm all up for poached eggs. However, this one that i had was on the verge of cooked. Portion was a little bit too small for the price, but the idea of croissant instead of ordinary toast was great!

Farmer's Stack Pancake--RM 18.90+
2 slices of pancakes, with brown button mushroom, chicken ham, hash brown, a sunny side up, drizzled with maple syrup
This is the perfect representation of the marriage between sweet and savoury. Once again, Jam & Kaya proves that sweet and savoury work well as a breakfast item. It is amazing how sweet pancakes and savoury eggs and ham are able to create the precise point of enjoyment for our palate!

Cappucino--RM 8.90+

Coffee here is pretty standard i would say. Slightly earthy but lacked of an appropriate acidity and nuttiness within. Nevertheless, it was still smooth and easy on the tongue.

Order has to be made and paid at the counter. Their service was excellent but most importantly, i adore the whole coziness and bright interior they have. By creatively decorating the rectangular space with opened coffee bar, white wooden chairs, rubber wood and huge windows, Jam & Kaya Cafe successfully transformed an old and simple hut into a comfortable and relaxing summer house for customers, especially sports centre's customers to refill energy after exercising. It is very satisfying to dine here, in one of the hidden jewel of PJ. This is the spirit of exploring and i can't wait to bring more fun reviews to you guys! Stay tuned xoxo
