#foodiehitstheroad No. 1: Burps & Giggles, Ipoh

11:57

Hello world! What's up with everybody? It's October already! Can't believe how time passes so quickly, in a blink of eye, we are almost ending 2014 already! Which means i'm getting older sigh. Anyway, today i'm going to share with you my first post about my series #foodiehitstheroad. It's actually a random hash tags i started on Instagram while posting photos. I was thinking well why not make it a series on my blog then? Therefore, i am going to share with you some of my dining adventures outside of my home, where i explore the world and various cuisine outside of my little glass box. I hope you are feeling excited like me! Let's just get started!

Few weeks ago, Mr. J and i hit the road up north, towards the old but not forgotten city of Ipoh. We wanted to get their dimsum and iced coffee but ended up getting surprises from this little city. Ipoh was the mining center in the 60-s. Although the mining had already seized, it still retained its heritage and beauty, just like my hometown, Penang. After getting ourselves filled with dimsum, we went for a walk in Ipoh's old town, getting amazed with their mural arts, like the ones in Penang. On the way, we stopped by at Burps & Giggles, which is one of the first few cafes pioneered in Ipoh, run by born and bred Ipoh enthusiastic youngster.

Burps & Giggles is situated off Jalan Sultan Yussuf, near the heritage area. It can be easily missed because there is no eye-catching signboard. I would advise you to park near the heritage center and walk across the road to get there. Parking can be tricky, but just be creative and you will be fine. We were welcomed by some friendly, young waiters, into a phenomenal space filled with art pieces, dimmed lighting and food aroma. They fully utilised their space, decorating it with all sorts of traditional Malaysian wares, going by the heritage theme around this vicinity. It is kind of hipster, unique, not the usual kind of cafe you get in Klang Valley.

After spending a good 2 minutes staring at the chalk board menu at the counter, we quickly made our order. Mr. J got himself their signature burger: Bambam Wagyu Beef Burger while i got myself two slices of cake: Dates Cake and Passionfruit Cheese Cake cause girl, i can't decide which one to pick! :) For drinks, i wanted to try out their cappuccino.
Bambam Wagyu Beef Burger--RM 28+
Sesame seed bun, wagyu beef patty, cheddar, sunny-side up, onion rings, beetroot.
Bam! They do know how to make their burger perfect yo! Every component in this dish wowed us. I love how flavorful the wagyu beef was, cooked perfectly to our liking, which was medium. It was moist, tender and cheddar also elevated its essence. I was not a fan of beetroot but somehow, it combined all the ingredients together perfectly, making it a memorable dish.

Dates Cake--RM 8.50+

I was not really pleased with this choice of dessert. First of all, it is small portion, not compatible with its pricing. Secondly, i find it too dry and lack of texture. However, i have to credit their creativity on decorating this item with white chocolate, dates sauce and strawberry.

Passion Fruit Cheese Cake--RM 10+

This cake on the other hand, succeeded in delivering a high standard to me. I love how different all the components of this dish, compared to the usual cheese cake. Their cookie base was moist but full of texture. I still couldn't figure out the exact items used within. The cheese cake filling was great, rich and not too sweet, perfect for cheese lover like us. The best part has to be the passion fruit infused cream on top of the cake. It was incredibly smooth, sourish but appetising. The acidity complements the rich cream cheese very well. Thumbs up!
Cappuccino--RM 10+

Burps & Giggles offers us a great lunch but what's better here is the indoor and outdoor decor. Burps & Giggles really poured in massive effort in transforming this simple and old shop lot into a whole new artsy space, with several different compartments with unique theme and setting each. They brilliantly used the olden hardware, utensils, random antique collections into the cafe's setting. The outdoor is equally intriguing as the indoor. With some hand painted murals and simple brass table and chairs, this small alley also give customers the English ambiance while dining.

Of course, the touristy blogger had to take some vain photos to fulfill my role as a one day tourist in Ipoh. I hope you guys would bear with me. In a nutshell, Burps & Giggles offered us some good food, with slightly above the bar pricing, in comparison with the shops around the corner. Their service was superb, ambiance was relaxing. If you are planning for a one day trip in Ipoh, feel free to visit their heritage center around and tour around the city, search for the hidden mural art. I truly enjoyed myself here, i hope you would to when you visit Burps & Giggles in Ipoh in the future! Peace out! xoxo

Just can't  help it but to love the natural sunlight on this comfortable couch.
