Bakery Cafe: Huckleberry Food & Fare

13:45

The cafe trend is standing strong despite of the inflation our country is facing now. However, i noticed that another 'subspecialised cafe' has recently risen up to take their influence around the Klang Valley and perhaps beyond. This is none other than the bakery cafe which combines both bakery with cafe dishes. It offers both pastries and warm food, desserts and drinks, making the best out of both worlds. I recently paid a visit to Huckleberry Food & Fare in Bukit Damansara that showcased incredibly delicious food and drinks.

Located at the business hub of Bukit Damansara, Huckleberry stands prominently at the corner lot facing the main road, housed within this elegant, modern and slightly European style building that is well decorated with simple wooden furniture and wonderful aroma of yeast. After getting our seat by the window, Ms. Laine and i made our order at the counter. We were spoilt with choices as there were various categories of breakfast, lunch and desserts menu to choose from. Not to mention the tempting pastries and bread displaced nicely on the counter, freshly baked from the kitchen daily. We got ourselves an Eggs Benedict, French Toast, Cappucino and Orange Juice, the typical kind of breakfast stuff.

Cappucino--RM 8.90

Fresh Orange Juice--RM 9.90
Banana French Toast--RM 24.90
Thick slice of brioche dipped in rice vanilla custard scented with nutmeg and cinnamon, cooked in butter, topped with banana, toasted walnuts, choice of maple syrup or raw honey.
Eggs Benedict--RM 23.90
Poached free range eggs with choice of either turkey ham or smoked salmon, house-made hollandaise on multigrain bread.

Let's start with the Banana French Toast. My goodness, when i say this is the best french toast ever, i'm NOT KIDDING! The thick brioche bread is crispy and so fluffy and soft. It acts like a huge sponge that soaks up all the richness and sweetness from the spiced custard. Every bite is filled with explosion of flavor and sweetness. However, the only downside would be the stingy amount of toppings. A little addition of strawberries would give this dish some acidity and balance. Eggs Benedict was disappointing as the poached eggs were overly done and the toasts underneath were way to hard and crispy to be enjoyable. Other than that, drinks were ordinary and mild.

My brunch experience was alright here in Huckleberry. Judging from the insane crowd we saw during the lunch hour, i had higher expectation on the execution of the food, but was slightly disappointed. Menu could be tweaked and pricing could be adjusted. However, Huckleberry is definitely a good place to meet up with friends, business lunch and even for people who just wanna shop for their freshly baked bread and pastries. Till next time, xoxo.
