I believe many of the teenage girls and even boys have encounter the all-so-famous Gossip Girl, an American TV series which influence the fashion and life style of youngsters. To be honest, i was a huge fan too. Blair's colourful head band, Serena's gorgeous outfits, The Van der Woodson waffle breakfast, Chuck Bass' sinful parties which all happens in the Upper-East side of New York City. For us, Malaysian girls, we can only fancy and dreaming that we were in the show, indulging in all those luxuries and of course, sweet scandal. =). However, as time passes, we now can enjoy the more-or-less same standard of high society living, if you are willing to pay... ;) Anyway, message of the day is, we, Penangnites also have our own Upper-East side of Penang Island, which is the Gurney-Straits Quay area.
I went to Upper-East side of Penang yesterday to experience the fine living in Penang together with my high school friend, introducing Ms Victoria Yap!!! round of applause* XD. We both adore these kind of stuff: hunting great food, shopping, chilling and just being lazy. LOL. I had so much fun and excitement. Grateful~
We started off with Straites Quay. This is the second time i visited it. I'm feeling so embarrassed now, after all, i'm a true, born Penangnites, how could i not come here more often?!!! Thanks to my hectic uni life~ sigh. The last time i came with few of my friends and it was so different compared to 10 months ago. More shops, more yacht, and of course, Christmas decor!!!! Oh gosh, i LOVE Christmas!!! ok, let's not go further into the whole Christmas thing yet. Well, Straits Quay was initially a beach, after developed by E&O, it became one of the leisure, fine dining, recreation center as well as residence for some wealthy people. The main concept of this newly emerged center is all about European and water-side enjoyment, something like Petronas Quay in Langkawi Island with a slight touch of Venice-Paris feel. It's a white building with nicely trimmed copper coloured fences, tropical plants and whole lot more of popular overseas restaurant such as Irish bars, Blue Reef Fish and Chip, Subway, Charlie Brown Cafe and tonnes. The best thing is, it's just sitted beside the sea, over-looking the Prai Jetty and Georgetown, and accompanied by clusters of modern bungalows. So perfect for a sunny brunch meet up right?
We finally decided to visit delicious, after browsing through floors of awesome food outlets. Vic ordered a Classic Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice-cream while I chose a simple Strawberry Cheesecake with berry jam. Due to lack of caffeine, i ordered a Flat White to spice things up a little bit. Well, what to say? It's delicious after all!!! You won't be disappointed with their sweet treats huh?! :) (satisfied smile). Vic's chocolate treat is indeed very chocolaty and sweet while mine is just nice. The sourness of the strawberry goes well with the sweet jam and the rich flavor of cheese and cream. My flat white was great too. With an addition of 2 packets of brown sugar, it immediately brings up the true essence of coffee and milk. Love that!!!
However, i must say, what impressed us the most is the ambiance of it. As usual, this chill-out place has all the features of a typical delicious outlet, bird-cage lights, huge white tree in the center, turquoise pillows, wooden furniture with white touch, very relaxing and comfortable. The unique thing is the sea-view and outdoor decor they have there. They used wooden beer cart to plant some medium sized tree and arranged some wooden bench just beside the cafe. Great view, cool environment, sweet surprise~
After chit-chatting plus chilling, we left there unwillingly. LOL. We continued our journey in Gurney Plaza. Just spent time shopping, chattering, giggling, gossiping (oops), watching movie. It was indeed a pleasure to meet up with an old friend and share so many things about life, love and dreams. :). After that, we settled our dinner at Chicago Ribs House. We weren't that hungry so we ordered a half-rack pork ribs, Flaming style with 2 sides. Really adore the presentation and the taste of the ribs. The waiter poured a shot of whisky on it and light up a blue flame. I was blown away by the smell of alcohol and the slight burnt of the skin. [Note: i'm not an alcoholic.>.<] Moreover, the ribs were well cooked, succulent and flavorful. Love the interior decor too. Something like Chili's and T.G.I.F, but more American, well after all, it's Chicago right
Conclusion, it was a tiring day but an awesome one!! I really love Penang!!! I do not want to leave her!!! LOL. The 1-day Upper-East side experience was rewarding, hope that through this post, you can understand Penang better and i'm more than happy to show you more next time~ Stay tuned!! xoxo
