Hello readers! It's Saturday again! For us, Malaysians, it's yet another long weekend because our 57th Independence Day is on tomorrow! No matter where you are, it's always a good idea to treat yourself and loved ones with some good old comfort food right? For this week's post, i am going to write about my dining experience in Souled Out, Sri Hartamas. Enjoy!
I went to the Sri Hartamas branch few months ago, during the heated World Cup Season. Therefore, the entire place was decorated with football related stuff. I used to think that Souled Out is a pub-slash-bar kind of chilling place, that's why it never cross my mind to try it out, until Mr. J strongly recommended this place to me, promising great steak and western dining experience. Well, there is no harm trying new places right? Hence, we visited Souled Out and ordered their Sirloin Steak, Sake San 8 inches Pizza and a Chocolate Lava Cake as desserts. Cocktail is one of their main attraction here, so we got ourselves a glass of classic mojito as well.
First of all, i was very impressed with the quality of the sirloin steak we chose. It was fresh, succulent, well seasoned and well cooked. Although at first, the medium rare i ordered was a little bit too under, so we requested them to redo and they gave us medium well instead. Kudos for their patience and service! I also love how the mushroom sauce complemented the natural essence of beef so well, completely elevated the standard of this dish.
Sake San 8-inch Pizza--RM 27++
Smoked salmon thin crust pizza, topped with garden salad, wasabi mayonnaise and salmon roe.
Next up, this Sake San Pizza did not pale, comparing with the impressive steak. I admired the bold and unique choice of topping Souled Out created with this dish. The smoked salmon and the crispy salad greens bring up an unique freshness to this pizza, breaking the old rules that pizza must be cheesy and greasy. This pizza was not oily at all, tasted refreshing and healthy as well. The best component here has got to be the special wasabi mayonnaise that combined all the flavors together!
Lastly, we ended our dinner course perfectly with this classic dessert. The chocolate lava cake totally lived up to its name, with its soft crust and gluey center. It was not too sweet, the rich chocolate worked well for my palate. The accompanying vanilla ice-cream gave a fine and light touch, in contrast to the rich chocolate flavor we have. Overall, it is a solid 'A' from me.
Personally, i was taken by surprise with the food served by Souled Out. Souled out completely changed my paradigm that pub food is not impressive and average. Aside from the amazing Western cuisine and drinks, their wonderful service and lively band music would also be my reasons to come back for a second experience. Pricing wise, it is slightly above average. With the menu we had above, each person costs around RM 60+, tax included. Parking is not a problem and it is easily locate as well. So my dear friends, let's grab some food from Souled Out during this weekend! xoxo
