LA/PA & Jaslyn Cakes, Bangsar

11:26

To those who are familiar with Telawi, Bangsar, i'm sure some of you will feel like, wow, there are so many restaurants here, which one to dine in? The incredibly packed, highly populated Bangsar always give me the same vibe whenever i visit. Well, today, i'm going to show you 2 cafes that are enjoyable so you can have some idea when you are around the neighbourhood.

LA/PA

The unusual name 'LA/PA is suggestive of 'lapar' in Bahasa Melayu, which means hungry. Hungry customers would find pleasure and satisfaction in LA/PA because of the diverse menu. I visited LA/PA for an afternoon tea, so we didn't try out their heavier servings. They do offer brunch, mains and desserts. I had a French Toast with berries and coffee to go with.

Housemade chalilah, vanilla custard soak, wild berries compote, honey, vanilla bean whipped cream

Simple and satisfying would be sufficient to describe my experience in LA/PA. I love the coffee, earthy, fragrant and creamy. French toast was simple, pleasant and delicious. Blackberries compote is unique as it offered a different texture and acidity to the sweet dish.

Overall, LA/PA allows a relaxing evening for customers to indulge in good food, nice coffee and artsy vibe with amazing paintings and art pieces in their setting. It is a bit pricey, but service was good. If you are a artsy hipster, LA/PA would be the choice for you.

Jaslyn Cakes

Hopping over to the adjacent shop--Jaslyn Cakes, one could find themselves so spoilt from choices of desserts in a small, little European-inspired cake shop. Jaslyn Cakes is entirely different from LA/PA. It is petite and feminine, sweet and comfortable, kind of reminds me of one of the cake shop i visited in German.

As you can see, in such a limited space like Jaslyn Cakes, every corner of the room is wisely used as room for customers to dine in. It offers an array of cakes, cookies, brownies, light bites as well as tea and coffee. I managed to tried some of their popular home-made cakes like Red Velvet Cake, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Slice as well as Carrot Cake. It is almost impossible to just drink water in this cake shop because they bake their cake freshly, on the spot and filled the space with wonderful and tempting aroma of sugar and butter. How to resist diabetes in Jaslyn's?

Jaslyn's cakes are all homemade, fresh and original. We can totally observe how they prepare the cake batter, the baking process and the decoration process. The open kitchen concept actually improves my appetite and that's the reason i managed to finish all these by myself. (nah, just joking). My favourite would be the Carrot Cake. It was not too sweet, with wonderful texture and rich cream cheese. The red velvet and chocolate peanut butter cake were good as well, but nothing too unique about it. Coffee was a let down, with single dimension bitterness. All the items were overpriced in my opinion due to small portion.

However, i do love their idea of open kitchen, open displaying of cakes and fresh, homemade cakes. They assure the top quality and freshness everyday. This cafe would be perfect for small group outings or dates, but not a huge crowd. I would definitely go back for the carrot cake! That's all for this post, enjoy your day!
