Second Sunday, Damansara Jaya

13:55

Good Sunday my dear peeps! I took a break on last Sunday, which was second Sunday of May to celebrate my mommy's big day! So, today, i'm bringing you guys not just one, but 2 write ups to make it up to you! For starter, let's head over to Second Sunday, a newly launched brunch cafe over in Damansara Jaya, brought to you by the same team from The Front Door which is well known for their gourmet opened sandwich.

Ala black & white
Being an enthusiast for good brunch, coffee and environment, this new creation in the midst of old Damansara Jaya housing mushrooms really satisfied my inner craving for good cafe. If you are familiar with Inside Scoop, DJ, KDU College, you should be able to locate this cafe within minutes. Parking is freely available outside and its eye-catching name would make things easier for locating. Stepping into the space, i'm immediately overwhelmed by the huge crowd, white surrounding and this modern, urban, chic look of Second Sunday. Its creative play on the wall decor, furniture settings and lighting produced a vastly free and chilled out ambiance for customers to dine and chat.

Love the innovative take of curtain hanger as menu holder.
Relax. Bright. Modern.
Another amazing change of perspective would be the unique twist in Second Sunday's menu when comparing to other brunch cafe. It offered a handful of familiar breakfast item, with some twist in them. For example, we ordered a Sunny Side Up and Local Pankek that are basically eggs on toast and pancake, but with their personal touch on them. Coffee of the day would be a cup of Flat White, as usual.

Sunny Side Ups--RM 24
Double sunny side upslaced with crispy cheddar cheese served on rye toast with avocado slices, smoked salmon, sauteed herb mushroom topped with seaweed and sesame seeds.

From a simple eggs on toast, Second Sunday's kitchen team managed to tweak the usual recipe, into a more Japanes/Korean by adding simple ingredients such as seaweed and sesame seeds. As weirdly as you may think, these addition actually worked. I love the strong fragrance of seaweed and sesame seeds that balanced the richness from eggs and avocado, giving this dish a lighter aftertaste.

Local Pankek--RM 16
Pandan and coconut pancake topped with caramalised banana and toasted fragrant desiccated coconut served with gula Melaka syrup, a classic Malaysian kuih flavor.

Pancake+banana+syrup? Yes, we are all too familiar with this combination. However, when you add in pandan, coconut and gula melaka into the equation, the chemical reaction sets off, releasing a purely old Malaysian flavor! This item totally reminds me of Nyonya kuih which uses a heavy amount of pandan, coconut and gula melaka. I think it is smart to incorporate something Malaysian into a Western menu, producing a fusion item which is sweet, fragrant, rich and memorable. Caramalised banana still held the crispy sugar coat when i cut into it. Desiccated coconut also added some wonderful texture into this item. Thumbs up!

Flat White--RM 10
Earthy, creamy, milky.
This incredibly white, bright and innovative cafe truly performed well in both visual and taste department. The downsides were the higher price tag and limited choices in their menu. I shall give the credit to Second Sunday as they are new and there are certainly space for improvement. To all the hippie food photographer out there, this place is 100% Insta-worthy. Bring along a camera and empty stomach, enjoy your lazy Sunday here and look forward to the busy week ahead! I hope you enjoy it! xoxo
