Whisk Outpost, One Utama | The Coffee Club, Subang Parade
09:22 Ohh hello guys! Welcome to our long awaited Raya Break!! It's the time of the year where our Malay friends will 'balik kampung' and celebrate their new year with friends and family. When some will take go back to respective hometown, i chose to stay in the city, just so that i can focus on catching up on my studies (as well as enjoying the near-empty city to myself). Anyway, today i'm going to share with you 2 cafes i visited recently. For those who are still in town, this would give you some idea on where to hang during this long break! Enjoy!
1. Whisk Outpost, One Utama
Few weeks ago, i visited Whisk Outpost in One Utama for a short meet up with the all time inspiring senior--Dr Yong! He was back from The UK for summer holiday so we decided to catch up over an afternoon tea here. I first noticed Whisk from its Subang Empire branch. I also heard that they serve one of the best macarons in town, hence i gave it a try that evening. This petite cafe is located in the Old Wing of One Utama, next to Starbucks and right opposite of the candy shop. Its rustic wooden furniture sends out a classic, comfortable ambiance.
After a long struggle at the counter, with all the tempting desserts offered, i finally decided to go with Granny's Cake, 3 macarons of rose, red velvet and lemon meringue, milk coffee for both of us.
Granny's Cake--RM 11.90 Apple Cake with Butterscotch Cream Cheese Filling |
10 oz espresso+milk--RM 10 |
Macarons--RM 2.50 each Red Velvet |
Yellow--Lemon Meringue |
Pink--Rose |
In short, their coffee was good but not the best. I love how the complex granny cake comes along so well. Well, perhaps it's just the butterscotch, it makes everything taste good. I was quite amazed with the macarons. To be honest, priced at RM 2.50 each, it has got to be one of the cheapest one in town. However, i don't fancy their overly crunchy consistency without any chewiness within. Other than that, the flavor for each macarons is distinctive and not overly sweetened.
Overall, Whisk Outpost is another cozy cafe with simple food, coffee and desserts, perfect for afternoon time with friends and family or even business talk. Service was fine, pricing was average. I would definitely come back for their cheap macarons!

2. The Coffee Club, Subang Parade
Originated from the far coast of Australia, this famous coffee chain finally invaded Malaysia a while ago. As a coffee monster, i could detect this new and brewing coffee factory and decided to visit together with Ms Eelaine when she was in town for summer break as well. This 2 storey massive building is situated at one end of Subang Parade, very easily noted when you are travelling on the main road. Its tall ceiling with modern New York touch up gave a subtle urban cafe feel to it.
For the coffee pick of the day, i had a cup of small latte while Ms Laine went with green tea latte. We also had a slice of chocolate cake for sharing. Kitchen was not operating when we were there and desserts choices was severely limited. I guess i had to blame it to the fact that that was their second day of business.

Iced Green Tea Latte |
Chocolate Cake with whipped cream |
Aside from disappointing food, their staffs seemed to be very confused and the ventilation of the cafe was quite bad under the scorching sun of 40 degree celcius. Pricing is considered slightly above average. I did not enjoy myself here, perhaps they are still new when i visited. I really hope that things will get better, more organised when i revisit next time, but not gonna be anytime soon. :/
