LOKL and RGB & The Bean Hive

LOKL Coffee Company

Located in one of the busiest circle of KL, LOKL, or you can pronounce it as 'LO-KAL' is packed with busy, hungry white collars during lunch hour. It is housed within the historical British colonial buildings, with chances of parking being zero. Even the nearest paid parking ground costs RM6 per hour. Nevertheless, the foodie couple still risk it all and visited this little cafe during a busy weekday. We had one set lunch, mushroom burger that came with creamy chicken soup as well as a hainanese chicken sandwich.

Creamy Chicken Soup with herbs pastry

Hainanese Meatloaf--RM 15.90+
Mushroom Burger Set Lunch (Seasonal)--RM 25.50
Two Course Meal
We wanted to try out their brunch menu but missed the 11 o'clock mark. We had the two course set lunch which includes a main course with soup. I was pleased with the rich and creamy chicken soup. The herbs pastry added a tinge if texture in this dish. However, both our burger and meatloaf were a major let down. My burger lacked of flavor, meat patty was way too dry and salty. The meatloaf was too small of a portion for its price and nothing great to be remembered. Perhaps next time around, the breakfast will perform better than our lunch experience.

RGB & The Bean Hive

Talking about unique cafe names, this cafe also showed us that we can go all out when naming cafe, perhaps it will work in catching the attention of people since their location and outer appearance are not particularly eye-catching. Fret not, this is not a haunted mansion. RGB & The Bean Hive is situated somewhere off Jalan Ampang, admist the quiet housing area. It could be a problem locating it, be sure to initiate your GPS. We were skeptical about stepping into this cafe because 70% not sure whether it is opened, 30% wondering if we were at the right place. Anyway, once we stepped inside, we were quite happy with our incidental discovery.

Firstly, you will be welcomed by an array of simple homemade desserts beside the coffee counter, together with a few friendly staffs. You make your order and start to pick your favourite chamber to sip your cup of coffee. This cafe is surprisingly spacious, with 3 to 4 spaces, decorated with various sets of designs and themes. With my 'Putera Lilin' that despise heat to his core, we chose the first room which is fully air-conditioned to spend our afternoon. It has a row of big windows overlooking the frontier 'garden'. This reminded me of the houses in old American movies. It was tranquil, peaceful and relaxing, highly conducive for small conversation or work over coffee.

My coffee was average, rich and creamy, full of aroma and earthy. The orange cake was humbly delicious but i wish it could double up its size for the price we were paying. Overall, a cute little hideout for a lazy afternoon. Hopefully they would slowly introduce some food menu so that i can have another excuse to revisit RGB & The Bean Hive.
