Coffee Stain by Joseph, Solaris | Mukha Cafe, TTDI

Good morning earthlings! Wow, the long hurdle of excitement from Chinese New Year, to finals, to Valentine's Day has finally over. How did you guys spend your Valentine's? No matter what, i'm sure you had a great one! Just a quick update, yours truly has finally got her holiday and is ready to rock it! Finals was pretty hard but who said med school was easy right? Anyhow, i'm sure you will see me graduating la. So, today, back to doing my favourite thing in a beautiful, sunny Monday morning, which is blogging!!

1. Coffeestain by Joseph, Solaris, Mont Kiara

I visited this extremely popular cafe in Solaris a month ago, with buddy Ms Zheng, after attending her graduation exhibition. That was pretty cool show where the graduating architecture student from Taylors Lakeside presented their work from Year 1 to the end of course. I would definitely blog that if i have time! Anyway, we came here for a quick catch-up. I guess Coffee Stain gained its fame from the promotion of many stars and celebrity bloggers like The JinnyBoy, Jane Chuck and her sister and friends as they like to hang out here. Therefore, people would come here perhaps to catch a glimpse on their idol? Nevertheless, i was here to try it out, see whether its fame lived it up to their coffee standard.

As you can see, the coffee shop is extremely busy on a Saturday evening. We barely got a seat. I noted many youngsters, especially young girls seated everywhere in the cafe. I guess this is the star-effect huh? Well, we ordered an ice-cube coffee, cappuccino and Brownie. Sadly, the dessert was never served and we had to cancel it after waiting for super long time. Disappointing service.

Ice-cube coffee--RM 15
Pour in the warm milk into the glass with ice-cube. The process will melt the coffee cubes, producing a milk coffee.
Hot cappuccino--RM 12
Mocha with 3D coffee art RM 17+ for this, is it worth it? It's up to you to say.
As usual, i think Coffee Stain is again, one of the overrated cafe in town. Simply because the mediocre presentation of coffee art and the flavour of the beans was so average. The ice-cube coffee was an astounding RM 15? I mean, no offence, i can make it at home you know? Their product was way over priced but did not offer me any sense of enjoyment. Don't get me started with the never-reach-my-table-brownie. We asked for the dessert for a good half an hour but it just never got delivered. The cancellation of the dessert also took forever. Even their famous 3D coffee art looked ridiculously easy but they charge an extra RM 5 for a spoonful of foam and chocolate sauce!

I was utterly disappointed with Coffee Stain. It proved to be merely an overpriced, under-trained cafe famed by artists and celebrities. I truly hope they can improve more on their service, execution and perhaps have a check on their pricing. I know it is situated in the high class Solaris but still, RM 20 for a small cup of coffee? It just didn't make sense to me. Even Starbucks only costs RM 18 at most for a large cup of coffee. Well, this is my humble opinion. Peace out!

2. Mukha Cafe, Taman Tun Dr Ismail

Next up, i wanna talk about Mukha Cafe, TTDI. I went there with a good friend of mine on a Sunday evening. We were greeted by this cozy brick design and a huge black wall with chalk-written menu. This Yemen-inspired cafe was so packed with people even the outdoor compartment was fully occupied. We had to wait for a good 15 minutes for a place (sharing). It's all good as it made me anticipate my coffee even more!

Busy Sunday

I ordered a cup of Flat White from the counter and got 3 pieces of cake from next door. They were Red Velvet, Mars Cheese Cake and Chocolate Mousse Cake. The pastry section is separated from the coffee making counter. You need to make your selection and payment for cakes on the left corner of the cafe.

Flat White--RM 10

Red Velvet Cake
Mars Cheese Cake
Chocolate Mousse Cake

RM 10+ for each slice
I don't know why we had so many cakes for the day. Couldn't finish them in the end but they were all good. The Red Velvet was extremely moist and well-balanced. The cream cheese frosting was delightful in my palate! Mars Cheese Cake was one unique creation. It's my first time trying such combination but no regret ordering that. The slightly melted Mars bar within the creamy cheese cake blended so well together in a mouthful! It's sinful for sure! The chocolate mousse was pretty nice too. My flat white just hit the right note. I like how earthly the beans tasted and the smoothness from the milk. The Flat White was an enjoyment, its slight bitterness worked well together with the sweet desserts.

Mukha is situated behind the famous Artisan Roast, near to Ko Skin Specialist Center. Personally, Mukha reigns well in offering pleasant and enjoyable coffee and cakes. It is a perfect spot for gatherings and a lazy evening out. Parking would be hard during peak hours. Other than that, thumbs up for you Mukha!
