Hou Xiang Chee Cheong Fun, Taman SEA

19:03

Happy Mothers' Day to all the wonderful moms around the world! How did you guys celebrated mothers' day? For me, i baked a cake for my mommy! As cliche as it sounds, everyday is mothers' day if you really love her. Anyway, today i'm gonna share with you a newly opened restaurant in Taman SEA--Hou Xiang Chee Cheong Fun.

For those who doesn't know, Chee Cheong Fun is actually a local Chinese delicacies made up of rice noodle roll, topped with sweet or spicy sauce, along with fragrant sesame oil, sesame seeds, fried onion and more. The rice noodle roll is steamed till soft and semi-transparent, giving it a slightly translucent look. It is really up to the vendor's creativity on what to put as ingredients. The Chee Cheong Fun i am talking about is the Malaysian version, unlike the Cantonese's one which uses soy sauce as base. Here in Malaysia, it is commonly found by the roadside, hawker centers or kopitiam. However, each region of Malaysia serves Chee Cheong Fun differently. In Penang, they serve it with shrimp paste; Ipoh with chili sauce while Selangor with a mixture between sweet and spicy sauce. Whatever ways, it still wows me every time i order it!

Hou Xiang Chee Cheong Fun is located behind Taman Megah Market. It is a bit tricky to find and parking is hard to get especially during peak hours. It serves everything about Chee Cheong Fun as well as some local delicacies. I was craving for Chee Cheong Fun for so long and hence, me and my family paid it a visit. Here in Hou Xiang, you can order their Chee Cheong Fun in 3 styles (Penang, Ipoh, Selangor) and side dishes separately, unlike the usual ones where the vendors will include all the sides into your dish.

Ipoh Style--RM 4.50+
Penang Style--RM 4.50+

Side dishes--stuffed bitter gourd, stuffed okra, kangkung and pork balls. Approximately RM 1.70+ per item
Deep fried Taiwan Sausage--RM 4.80+
Traditional Iced Coffee/Kopi Peng & Iced Milo/Milo Peng--RM 5.20 and RM 4.20
Love the use of traditional aluminium metal cup, just like the good old days
Milo Ais!
I love all the Chee Cheong Fun and side dishes we ordered! The texture of the rice noodle roll is perfect, both chewy and soft at the same time. The Penang style is my favourite as i love how flavorsome is the shrimp paste! The greens and porkballs were fine but i find the sausage a bit overcooked and was quite dry. The drinks were both mind-blowing. The portion is big, i recommend you to share. I adore how milky and traditional it tasted, just like those i had when i was young in the old kopitiam! Thumbs up for that!

Open kitchen concept. p/s:sorry for the poor photo quality
Overall, Hou Xiang's Chee Cheong Fun did not disappoint and i found pleasant surprise with their drinks too. However, the pricing is on the higher side. RM 40 for 3 person. Normally, in the usual kopitiam or roadside vendors it costs only RM 5+ for a plate of Chee Cheong Fun. Then again, Hou Xiang offers you a pleasant and cooling environment to dine in. I guess it's up to you to decide the value of this? That's all for today, have a fruitful week ahead! xoxo
