A Parisian experience: TWG Tea Boutique, Sunway Pyramid

19:40

   I have always been a coffee person. In fact, i was brought up in a family that loves coffee. Since i was in primary school, my mom will infuse some 3-in-1 coffee into my hot milo every morning. That's probably how i became a coffee monster. Joke aside, today i'm going to share with you guys a tea boutique i visited few weeks ago with my old buddy--Jasper. I wasn't planning to go there due to the expensive pricing and i'm not a keen tea drinker. However, Sunway Pyramid was so packed that day idunnowhy, so we had to settled with TWG instead. Nevertheless, the experience was amazing.

   TWG, which stands for The Wellness Group, is an international tea company pioneered in Singapore. It is famous for its high quality tea, fantastic ambiance and luxury tea drinking experience. Its branches have reached different countries in the world and has recently started to spread its influence across Malaysia, since the first one in Pavillion. Now, we get to enjoy TWG's premium tea in more places such as The Gardens Mall, Sunway Pyramid, Gurney Paragon in Penang and more to come.

TWG is a luxury concept that incorporates an international distribution network to professionals, unique and original retail outlets and exquisite tea rooms. A veritable tea institution, TWG Tea is passionate about sharing their expertise and has become a point of reference for tea lovers thirsty for knowledge.

   Upon stepping into this gorgeous and elegant tea saloon, we were immediately welcomed by a few friendly staffs and were escorted to our table. It was just plain luck that we managed to grab a seat without prior booking. Just a kind reminder to you guys, remember to make a reservation before paying them a visit! I scanned through the environment quickly and was very pleased with what i saw. Rows and rows of high quality tea arranged neatly in metal cans across the hall. All the tables and chairs elegantly placed to offer the customers a Parisian tea experience. You get to see colourful and attractive desserts displayed in the glass box, tempting you to take a bite into them. All these just reminded me of my trip to Paris last summer which i miss so much!

   To be honest, both of us have so little idea about tea and were so confused looking at the list of tea offered here in TWG. Therefore, we grab some help from the kind waiter who introduced us to a few types of tea after knowing our preference. He sort of given us a Tea 101 lesson on the spot. There are actually a few types of tea such as black, red, green and white. Black tea is best for breakfast as it has the highest amount of caffeine within, designed to kick start your day just  like coffee. On the other hand, white tea is most suitable to be consumed at night as it has a lower caffeine content and is very soothing, perfect for relaxing our body, mind and soul. Different kind of tea, their origin, their content were designed specifically to suit different kind of occasions and functions! We were so amazed and taken aback by all these precious knowledge about tea. After that, we quickly made our order and we both had a personal afternoon tea set.

Mine (black): Samovar Night Tea
Jas (White): Regency Tea
RM 19++ each (included in the tea set)
1837 Afternoon Tea Set--RM 28.50++
consists of a choice of tea (RM 19 and below), a choice between 2 homemade scones/muffins served with tea jelly and whipped cream OR 1 patisserie from TWG's daily trolley

Jas' choice--Some tea pudding thingy which i couldn't remember :/
    As you can see, my choice was 2 scones with whipped cream and tea jelly accompanied by a pot of Salmovar Night Tea. I am not very good with assessing tea as i don't really drink much, but i'll just comment on what i feel. The tea i chose had a moderate caffeine kick, it was smooth but clean. Its fragrance was calming and soothing, with sufficient bitterness to keep you awake. The scones were well prepared, soft and refreshing. However, i would prefer it to be more crumbly instead. It went very well with the whipped cream and tea jelly! A subtle but memorable scone. Jas' dessert was amazingly made as well. Its consistency was something like a moist cheese cake, but seasoned well with tea essence and crumbly cookie base.
Happy girl!
   Overall, i was quite satisfied with our food. However, it is quite expensive to begin with. The tea given is not refillable. Each pot is sufficient for 4 small cups. On the other hand, TWG has given us a wonderful dining experience with knowledgeable staffs, exclusive ambiance and over-the-top quality food. I would say it is worth the money, but i will need to save up before visiting again. No matter what, i still think i appreciate coffee more than tea for sure, but it was something new for me and it was fun indeed! Here you go, me and my handsome friend!
