Magnum Cafe, Mid Valley Mall

08:39

Good day world! Today, yours truly is going to bring you a report about the latest hype in town, which is an ice-cream cafe that was recently launched in Malaysia. Anybody guessed it correctly? Yes, it is the first and only Magnum Cafe, in Mid Valley Mall, Kuala Lumpur.

I first noticed about the existence of Magnum Cafe in Singapore from social media when some of my friends visited the branch there. Little did i know, few months later, it has already extended its influence in Malaysia by the launching of its pilot cafe in Mid Valley Mall. Located on the 3rd floor of the mall, it is easily spotted, just right next to the GSC cinema and the long queue will eventually draw you closer. This 2 storey store is still insufficient to hold the huge crowd swarming inside each day. Therefore, the cafe set up a rule of only those who order plated dessert or hot meal can be allowed to dine on their second floor spacious area. Otherwise, one must dine at the side table provided on ground floor or just take away.

Well, how to order then? In Magnum Cafe, the menu is simple. You can either pick a plated dessert and dine upstairs, or just join the queue and wait for your turn to order. If the latter one is your preference, you can also choose between a pre-set ones or you can customise your own topping. The rule is simple:

1. Pick your ice-cream flavor (classic vanilla or chocolate brownie)

2. Choose your coating (white, milk or dark chocolate)

3. Choose your toppings
a) The Classic: (chopped almond, pistachio, hazelnut, crushed oreo, petite marshmallow, chocolate chip cookies)
b) The Experimental: (chili flakes, sea salt, goji berries, rose petals) some weird combo) :/
c) The Special: (gold nuggets, dried mango, dried raspberries, blackcurrant, potato chips, popcorn, pretzel, chocolate crunch pearls)

The magnum staff will put your choices of toppings inside this cocktail maker and mix everything together
Put more, more!

4. Choose your drizzle (white, milk, dark chocolate)

lastly, a magnum logo is must!
5. Set it for 3 minutes
Tah-dah!
6. Share it (any social media)
Time for a Magnum-photoshoot lol
7. Enjoy!
Looking so excited for it!
We chose to customise our magnum by using a vanilla base, topped with dark chocolate, topped with (popcorn, chopped almond and chocolate chip cookie) and drizzled with white chocolate. It costs RM 9.90 for one.

Our customised magnum

I believe many of you might ask, so what's so great about this customised magnum? How it differs from the store-bought ones? Well, to be honest, i really don't think it differs much, except for the thicker chocolate coating and fancy toppings. I love how all of the toppings here gave it some different texture and elevated the dessert experience. I guess, people are willing to pay extra 6 bucks for this just for the hype and also the experience of choosing your own topping and watching your ice-cream being made in front of you. Other than that, quoting from Mr. J, it is invented for Instagram users.

Nevertheless, i think for those who are interested in this, just give it a try if the queue is short. For us, we were pretty lucky as the queue was not that long. We only waited for 15 minutes to get our order. It is a pleasant experience, but i would not return for a second one. I am satisfied with a RM 4, petrol kiosk bought Magnum ice-cream. Cheers.
