The Battle of The Best Red Velvet Cake!

I am pretty sure, desserts lovers out there will not be hostile about this cake--Red Velvet.

Dressed in sinfully hot red colour, topped and layered with rich and sweet cream cheese, this is truly a devil's cake. It is basically a chocolate and vanilla flavoured butter cake, cut in several layers and creamed with deliciously sweetened cream cheese. I guess its striking colour with intense and rich flavors successfully registered itself as one of the most unforgettable cake in every dessert bar.

Hence, today i am gonna showcase 2 cafe which served some pretty terrific red velvet cake. Let's just sit back and see who is the winner in this battle ring alright? Well, at least the winner in my heart.

1. Upstairs Cafe, SS12, Subang

First up, we have contestant number 1, from Subang's SS12, right opposite of Subang Jaya Medical Center (SJMC), or Ramsay Sime Darby Medical Center now, whatever you name it. As its name suggests, this is a cozy little cafe on first floor, famous for its wide variety of sweet delicacies as well as affordable and delicious Western cuisine. I have heard rumors saying it serves the best Red Velvet Cake in the whole Klang Valley, so i have to test it out myself. Therefore, Mr. J and i, as some fervent food reporters ordered a slice of Red Velvet Cake, Chocolate Brownies with Vanilla ice-cream and also an Arabiatta Pasta. A coffee is a must to wash down all the sugar, so we also gotten a cup of  Cappuccino to go along.

Spaghetti Arabiatta--RM 10.90

Oh my, how can someone not love this amazing creation? The red velvet cake was smooth, sweet and rich. I like the smooth cream cheese filling, the sweetness almost exceeded my threshold. The set back was just a bit dry, perhaps it was an aged cake. The brownie on the other hand was surprisingly affordable and overly sweet as well. I guess Upstairs Cafe is the haven for sweet tooths. The pasta was well flavoured and balance, quite an acceptable portion and quality for its pricing. Coffee was average, nothing to woo about.

More desserts~
Overall, i would say this red velvet cake was great but not the best as many had crowned it to be. I am really pleased with the variety of desserts they have here, and also the pricing friendly quality here. I would definitely return for more of their tempting desserts and pasta.

2. Ode Art Cafe, SS15, Subang Jaya

Next, we have our second contestant from Subang Jaya as well, but somewhere near the college crowd of Subang--SS15. We visited this artistic cafe during our study break, hoping to find some tranquility and a cup of warm coffee to keep us going. Mr. J suggested this cafe on 1st floor of one of the shops opposite of Subang Square, nearby Taylors Collge Subang. I was really glad it turned out to be what we were looking forward to.

The space here is all about creativity. Chairs and tables were arranged freely, with different style and pattern. They also provide a doodle wall for anyone to leave some artwork behind before leaving. The only regret was the dim lighting, not the best place to study but it could be a great spot to hang out and catch up friends.

For the day, we each had a cup of milk coffee and shared a slice of Red Velvet Cake.

The cake was incredibly moist and soft, just the right consistency that i love. However, i find them a little bit stingy on the cream cheese department. Otherwise, this could be one of the best red velvet in town! Coffee was also alright, creamy and soft, but still lacking in kick and the caffeine nectar.

Nevertheless, Ode Art Cafe is mainly environment over coffee with some potentially wonderful cakes. I would recommend the Red Velvet Cake here when you drop by this petite cafe. Well, to me the winner is obvious, i would personally prefer the cake from Ode Art because it was not too sweet and was very moist and pleasant. However, i still think the ones from Just Heavenly is the best Red Velvet that i have ever tasted in my life. I am not exaggerating guys, just drop by to these 3 cafes to experience and judge by yourself! Till then, xoxo.
